Why DC is used in VFD?

DC (Direct Current) is used in Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for several reasons:

Conversion: Generally, VFDs receive grid power in the form of AC, but they must first convert it to DC. Reversers are typically used to accomplish this by converting AC to DC. The VFD then uses this DC as a transitional stage in its operation..

Inverter Stage: The DC voltage is fed into an inverter stage following rectification. This DC voltage must be converted back into AC voltage at the appropriate frequency and voltage level by the inverter stage. The connected motor's speed and torque can be adjusted by adjusting the output AC waveform's voltage and frequency

Control: The output voltage and frequency can be precisely controlled with DC. Pulse-width modulation (PWM) is one of the control strategies that VFDs use to adjust the output AC waveform's voltage and frequency. The motor speed can be smoothly and effectively changed thanks to this control.
